Michael is a seasoned trial attorney with substantial experience in aerospace sector litigation, product liability claims and risk counseling, domestic and international arbitrations, and investigations involving the False Claims Act (FCA) and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). He is known for representing top companies in complex cases, including high stakes arbitration disputes.
Michael has litigated matters involving a diverse range of industries, from aviation and aerospace to telecommunications, yachting, recreation equipment, and tire manufacturing. Noteworthy highlights include successfully arguing for summary judgment on the government contractor defense in a military rotorcraft matter; prevailing on an eight-figure arbitration claim involving an aerospace supply-chain dispute; and representing a major aviation manufacturer in multidistrict litigation arising from a significant commercial aviation accident.
Before joining McGuireWoods, Michael honed his skills as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle, Washington, where he tackled numerous jury and bench trials. Leveraging this background, he conducts thorough risk assessments and investigations related to FCA and FCPA matters. Prior to serving as a federal prosecutor, Michael was a law clerk to Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge J. Michael Luttig of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Michael has earned national recognition from Chambers USA for his expertise in aviation litigation. His fluency in Russian and German expands his ability to serve clients globally.
