Patrick is a member of the firm’s nationally ranked Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation practice. He focuses on internal investigations and related litigation. Patrick has assisted clients in navigating responses to federal criminal investigations, regulatory inquiries, Congressional investigations, and whistleblower reports. He has experience across a range of industries, including technology, energy, financials services, and heavy industry.
Patrick has an extensive background in information technology. He uses his experience on both the technical and governance issues to advise clients. Patrick can work directly with IT departments and technical experts, translating technical terms into actionable information for decision makers. He also applies his experience with technology to his management of matters, leveraging technology to realize efficiencies for his clients.
Prior to practicing law, Patrick was an assistant vice president in the Virginia State Government Relations group of McGuireWoods Consulting. During that time, he advised clients on a range of issues, and advocated their interests before the Virginia General Assembly and state executive agencies. Patrick employs his government relations knowledge and experience in his current practice.
Experience
- Represented a Fortune 100 corporation in multi-year grand jury investigations into matters arising from the distribution and sale of opioids.
- Investigated an IT outage at a Fortune 500 company and counseled the company on incident response and crisis management and communications.
- Conducted an internal investigation into a major IT systems outage of financial institution and coordinated outreach and responses to regulators.
- Represented a cryptocurrency mining company in Securities and Exchange Commission investigation.
- Represented an individual in a Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) criminal investigation and prosecution.
- Conducted an internal fraud investigation into the practices of regional branch of a Fortune 500 company.
- Represented a company in a multi-year investigation by the House of Representatives.
- Represented an individual in connection with testimony before a select committee of the House of Representatives.
- Counseled a publicly traded company on disclosures related to its privacy and data security practices.
