U.S. News-Best Lawyers, Best Law Firms, 2025 – McGuireWoods earned first-tier national rankings in 21 practice areas as well as metropolitan Tier 1 rankings across practice areas in 16 cities. The annual report is compiled from client feedback and peer reviews.

The American Lawyer, Industry Awards, 2024 – McGuireWoods was named a finalist for the 2024 American Lawyer Industry Awards in the Best Provider Collaboration category for its role as co-counsel in a suit challenging practices by the city of Los Angeles related to the confiscation and disposal of unhoused people’s belongings. McGuireWoods is partnering with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, two other law firms and the Human Rights Litigation Clinic at UCLA. McGuireWoods also earned recognition in the Corporate Culture & Wellbeing category for its “What’s In a Name?” project that deploys a technology tool to broadcast the correct pronunciation of names.

M&A Advisor Awards, 2024 – McGuireWoods was a finalist in nine deal categories for the 2024 M&A Advisor Awards, which recognize top corporate transactions from the past year and the firms involved in closing them. The firm was named a finalist in five categories for advising Dominion Energy on a complex, cross-border $14 billion sale of three gas distribution companies headquartered in three different states to Enbridge, North America’s largest natural gas utility by volume; in two categories for handling seller-side regulatory due diligence for the sale of Heavy Equipment Colleges, then owned by Evolution Capital, to Argosy Capital; and in two categories for its debt financing work for Coastal Administrative Group.

The National Law Journal, Community Impact Leader Award, 2024 – McGuireWoods won the Community Impact Leader Award from The National Law Journal, marking the third year in a row the publication honored the firm for social responsibility, pro bono service, diversity and inclusion, and guiding clients on environmental, social and corporate governance issues.

OneJustice, Champions of Justice Award, 2023 – McGuireWoods was a winner of the 2023 OneJustice Champions of Justice Awards, along with Bank of America and California Rural Legal Assistance, for their pro bono collaboration helping low-income California residents petition to expunge misdemeanor criminal records.

The American Lawyer, Industry Awards, 2022 – McGuireWoods is a finalist for The American Lawyer Industry Awards in three categories: Legal Services Innovation, Best Business Team and Best Provider Collaboration. The annual awards program honors exceptional work across the legal services spectrum.

McGuireWoods ranked among the top 5% of all firms for providing associates the best opportunity to grow within their firms and was rated among the leaders for helping women associates in their careers, helping women associates develop a career path and providing all associates with the best access to training. BTI’s findings were based on interviews with top legal decision makers at large companies across industries.

The Best Lawyers in America, 2020 – Nineteen McGuireWoods lawyers were named 2020 “Lawyers of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America, an honor given to only one lawyer in each practice area per city. In addition, 192 lawyers from McGuireWoods’ U.S. offices were selected by their peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers. Among those honored, 28 are listed in the area of Banking and Finance Law, the most of any firm in the nation. M&A Advisor, Private Equity Deal of the Year, 2016 – McGuireWoods represented Morehead Capital in the sale of Chopt Creative Salad Company to L Catterton, which The M&A Advisor recognized as the Private Equity Deal of the Year for transactions valued at $100 million to $250 million.

M&A Advisor, Telecom Deal of the Year, 2016 – The M&A Advisor named the retail partnership between Sprint and RadioShack as the Telecom Deal of the Year in the annual M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards, which recognize top distressed investment and restructuring deals and the firms involved in closing the transactions. McGuireWoods advised its longtime client Sprint in completing the deal, which more than doubled Sprint’s company-owned retail footprint and expanded its ability to reach customers from coast to coast.

The American Lawyer, Global Legal Awards, 2015 – The American Lawyer’s 2015 Global Legal Awards recognized the favorable settlement in Brian Riopelle’s multi-year trade secrets case for DuPont over Kolon Industries for stealing manufacturing secrets to Kevlar.
